MTG.cards is an independent, unofficial tool for designing custom Magic-style cards, casual playtest cards, tokens, cube cards, Commander Rule 0 cards, and custom set projects.
Our goal is simple: make custom card design easier to understand, easier to use, and clearer about what is and is not appropriate. MTG.cards is not affiliated with, endorsed by, sponsored by, or approved by Wizards of the Coast.
What MTG.cards Is For
MTG.cards is built for casual and creative card projects, including:
- Custom cards for personal games
- Commander Rule 0 cards
- Tokens, emblems, and helper cards
- Cube and playtest cards
- Custom set design
- Card mockups for private or casual use
- Design experiments, templates, and card-layout practice
Some users design cards for download only. Some users use MTG.cards as part of a print workflow. When a print option is available, printing may be handled through PrintMTG.com or another clearly identified fulfillment workflow. MTG.cards should not be treated as an official Magic: The Gathering product source.
What MTG.cards Is Not For
MTG.cards is not for creating counterfeit cards, passing custom cards off as authentic Magic cards, or using unofficial cards in sanctioned events where authentic cards are required.
Do not use MTG.cards to:
- Represent a custom or proxy card as an authentic Magic card
- Sell unofficial cards as official or authentic cards
- Create cards intended to deceive buyers, collectors, judges, stores, or players
- Use unofficial cards in sanctioned tournament play where they are not allowed
- Remove or alter notices in a way that creates confusion about authenticity
- Upload artwork, trademarks, or other materials you do not have the right to use
Custom cards can be a useful part of casual play and design testing, but they should be clearly unofficial.
Responsible Use
We ask users to keep custom cards clear, honest, and appropriate for the setting where they will be used. For casual play, talk with your group first. For store events, ask the organizer. For sanctioned events, follow the official event rules.
Wizards of the Coast has stated that sanctioned events require authentic Magic cards, with narrow judge-issued proxy exceptions for certain damaged cards during an event. Wizards has also distinguished casual, personal playtest cards from counterfeit cards. Please review the current official policy before using any unofficial card in an organized setting.
